Those who attended the Barrell Craft Spirits tasting had the opportunity to taste the mastery of blending sourced barrel whiskey. Known for its unfiltered, cask-strength expressions and innovative blending techniques, Barrell delivered a lineup that sparked conversation, comparison, and a lasting tasting impression of bourbon. Here’s a recap of what we tasted and how the lineup stood out.
Barrell Bourbon Batch 029
Batch 29 offered a kaleidoscope of flavors, blending high-rye spice with the softness of wheated bourbon. A touch floral and herbal on the nose, it unfolded into honey, toasted coconut, and a slightly lingering finish. While it was the most layered of the lineup, its subtleties required multiple sips to fully appreciate.
“This one’s for the thinker—not the showstopper, but the quiet favorite for some.”

Barrell Bourbon Batch 033
“If you’re new to cask-strength, this is a great place to start.”

Barrell Bourbon Foundation 5 Year
“Easygoing but well-structured—like a handshake before the main event.”

Barrell Tale of Two Islands
The sweetness of the rum finish and the smokiness of the Islay casks mingled together with the underlying bourbon that continues the tale of two islands. Dark chocolate, espresso, and malty porter set the stage for this amazing blend of whiskey finished in two casks, producing an amazing whiskey.
“It’s bourbon on vacation—laid-back, funky, and unforgettable.”
Barrell Rye Batch 004
5, 6 & 10 Yr. TN Yr TN, 6 Yr KY, and 14 Yr Canadian | Rye 89%, Corn 7%& Barley 4% | Cask Strength 115.7
This rye blend highlights rye’s earthier side, featuring notes of tobacco, leather, and pine needle. Its stewed fruits and wild savory character resemble the Rhone Valley. There was brightness and complexity that lingered beautifully.
“The rye heads in the room were smiling wide.”
